Setting Boundaries and How it affects my Business

Boundaries – a word that is everywhere right now. A word that can strike terror into the hearts of people pleasers or givers (ask me how I know) but what exactly is a boundary?

Boundary definition:

something that indicates bounds or limits.

Sounds harsh, doesn’t it?

When I first started learning about setting boundaries as an adult, I thought it meant all the ways to say no to things. Ways to stop doing something I don’t like, hate or don’t want to do. It seemed so harsh, so restricting for someone as deeply as emotional as me.

I am here to tell you it’s not that harsh. In fact, it’s freeing, uplifting and sometimes joyful to set boundaries.

As most of you know, I have been working with Ashley Beaudin, a Gentle Business and Self-Sabotage Coach. She’s the kind soul that reframed setting boundaries for me. She literally changed my life.

So how exactly is setting boundaries freeing? Because you are actually sitting down and discovering what matters MOST to you! Yup, the GOOD STUFF. That’s where you start when setting boundaries.

Making what matters to you most a priority is the simplest form of setting a boundary. This takes the harshness away and brings in the light to make decisions and situations easier. Okay, it’s not always easy if this is new to you but I promise it is worth it!

“Ok so Aimee, what do Boundaries have to do with your business” – I am so glad you asked!

When setting boundaries for my business, I looked at things that mattered the most to me when I am creating:

  • Feeling joy for my projects while I create
  • Planning ahead so I know what I am working on
  • Collaborating in gentle ways
  • Embracing the joy of writing

Putting these (and a few personal) boundaries in place has given me joy and excitement back into my business.

So what does this mean for you? It means that my products are being created from a deeper sense of joy and creativity.

It means that I have 2 huge incredible projects planned for the year: Weekly Stickers and Quarterly Fabric Designs,

And lastly, it means that working with me on custom requests and collaborations is changing. I want to truly dive fully into these projects so a brand new intake form is being created. It’ll be the best way to connect and ensure that we are a good fit for each other.

Boundaries can still be scary for me but I am learning and embracing what is ahead. I am so grateful to take you on this journey with me.
