Have you always been a ballpoint pen user but want to step up your pen game now that you have a cute planner? Don't worry, I've got you! In today's post, I'm going to share with you some pens that I love and how they write. Best of all? I am no hand letterer, so you're going to see these pens and markers written in basic writing and no fancy moves!
Let's dig into my pens first!
Pentel Gel Pens
Pentel Energel Gel Pens are one of my most favourite pens to use. The ink is so silky smooth to write with, and they don't "jump" when you write for longer periods. I love that the pen barrel is clear so you can see the amount of ink in the pen. These pens come in an assortment of colours and are usually 0.7mm thick.
Now, the downside to these delicious pens? They are on the pricier side. I personally like to head to Staples to get individual colours, so I am not breaking the bank when I buy them!
Marker Pens
Paper Mate Flair Marker Pens are perfect if you like thick writing and using markers in your planner. I love using them alongside my gel pens, so I get some variety in my planners. They are great for doodling and adding some colour to junk journals! They don't bleed when you write unless you do it over a fresh highlighter.
The downside to Flair Markers? I find that if I don't use them up quick enough, the barrel cracks and the ink will leak a little. If you plan to use it regularly, you may not have this problem!
Sharpie Pens
Sharpie S-Gel Pens are my all-time fave gel pens to use for note-taking, planner writing and just all-around writing. They write super smoothly and don't smudge at all. These pens don't come in bright colours like Pentel or Paper Mate, but hopefully they will soon!
The downside? I don't think there is one! They can be pricey if you want to buy a large pack, but they seem to last so long that I don't mind buying them!
Zebra Pens
Zebra Z-Grip Pens are my new favourite ballpoint pens. For a "basic" pen, the ink glides so smoothly. They come in a multitude of colours and have deliciously thick nibs all the way up to 1mm for wonderfully thick writing!
They can be a little pricey depending on where you purchase them, BUT you can often find them at Dollar Stores!
Zebra Mildliners
Zebra Mildliners are my all-time favourite highlighters on the market. These markers come in so many colours from pastels, to brights and even warm colours and grey! You really can't go wrong! You can find them at most stationery and craft stores, and even the dollar store, too!
The downside? I find the pointed tip is inconsistent across colours. Some are nice and pointy, and others are more smushed. So if you are hoping to use the pointed tip the most, be prepared for that!
Sharpie SNote
Sharpie S-Note Highlighters are my newest obsession. Last year, I won a set of them in an Instagram contest and have been hooked ever since. They don't smudge when you use them, and the tips? They are wonderfully solid, making for consistent swipes of markers. The rounded nib looks as if it would write thick, but because it is firm, you can get a surprisingly thin line!
These highlighters come in a variety of colours and are surprisingly affordable. You can often find them at the dollar store, too!
Now that you've got your markers, your highlighters and your planner basics, you can start using that pretty planner that you have!
Which pen or marker are you going to choose next?
