I currently live in Peterborough with my Husband and son. We live in the beautiful avenues which is where I always wanted to live when I was a kid. We’d love to move out of the city and hopefully next year we can do just that.
We have been back and forth between here and Australia for the last ten years which gets harder as the years goes by because its super expensive and we now have furbabies. My husband is from Australia and my son was born there in 2014. We brought our cats back to Canada with us this time around which was crazy expensive! Their names are Mo and Lo (Lo has numerous names- Meeps, los meepies, but her full name is Little Los Meep Meep. No clue why that happened) Its very hard having two homes on opposites sides of the world but we make it work the best we can! I’m an ASD mum and super proud of my son on his little journey.

Tell us a little more about CoylesCubby and what you create!
I handmake apparel for the little people in our lives.
The lovely little community I lived in called Mackay was full of amazing artists and makers. They had phenomenal markets there weekly, monthly and annually. I realized after having my son that the handmade world was over saturated with girls clothing and accessories and I felt I could make my sons stuff, easy. I started making little accessories but became infatuated with shoes! Moccasins and softsoles. That’s what CoylesCubby was at the beginning. Then I started playing around with patterns and new fabrics and taught myself how to sew clothing! I am constantly inspired by little kids with big imaginations. I adore seeing little grubby kids wearing special one of a kind pieces.
When did you learn to sew?
I learned my way around the sewing machine just a couple of years ago. I was “Artsy” in highschool and even did a sewing class back in the day but didn’t think I’d be sewing as an adult.
I bought a cheap beginner sewing machine and some cheap fabric and gave it a red hot go! I watched so many You tube tutorials and because I was a stay at home mum with a baby I had some amount of patience to watch the tutorials.
What is your favourite thing to make?
Hmm, tough question. There are items I would call my favourite because they’re easiest but I think my favourite thing to make is a Sweatshirt. They’re cozy and a staple piece for pretty much everyone. Most of my time spent sewing was in a warmer climate so making things for cooler weather is new and exciting for me!
What is one thing you would love to learn?
I’d love to design my own patterns and create adult clothing but I lack the two things needed to accomplish these. Patience and Money.
One day I’ll add adult clothing into the mix but I think it will be more of the custom route.
Tell us a random fact about you that most people don’t know.
I met my husband on the internet! Back in the day before facebook, we cliqued over the love of music on Myspace. We developed an awesome friendship thanks to our old friend MSN messenger then we met in person in 2007! We’ve had what feels like a lifetime of experiences within the last ten years and it’s been the best time.
One of the best parts of following Chantel on instagram is seeing her adorable creations as she makes them! Don’t these little booties look so cozy?!
