Today on PTBO Makes, I’m sharing with you Accessorize This Designs. Sara is an amazing crochet artist and pattern designer. I guarantee you will fall in love with her creations! Read on to get to know her and her business a little bit more!
I have 3 kids ages 1, 3 and 4 and a fantastic supportive husband of almost 8 years. I absolutely love being outdoors and spending time with my family And crocheting…lots and lots of crocheting…lol if I’m not crocheting, my mind is still coming up with ideas for new designs. My husband often catches me staring off into space trying to plan out my next design.
What inspired you to start your business?
I was inspired to pick up a crochet hook again when I was pregnant with our first son, to make him a blanket, that I don’t think I ever finished lol. I probably have about 10 or so blankets started….it wasn’t until I made a few hats (and had the ‘instant’ gratification from actually finishing something) that I was hooked on crocheting. At the time I had a fairly stressful job as a franchise owner and I found crocheting was very relaxing. From there I began making hats and taking them to a few church craft sales. Then with a lot of convincing from friends and family, I found the confidence to enter the world of social media and began taking custom orders for a couple of years. During those years we had our daughter and decided to sell our franchise so I could stay home with our kids. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with our 3rd child that I realized how much I loved designing.
I released my first set of patterns April 17, 2016 and haven’t looked back. I now have 24 designs published as Accessorize This Designs and I have done some collaborative work with another designer in PTBO (Holly of Holly’s Hobbies) and we have created a new shop called The Croch-Eh Patch. We have a HUGE set of patterns set to release in the next couple weeks!! {It’s out now, see it HERE}
I get so much inspiration from my kids, their toys and books, as well as fabrics and other types of handmade items.
When did you learn to Crochet & Knit?
My Grandma’s taught me how to knit first when I was 7. I learned some basic crocheting skills from my grandma when I was 9, but most of my crocheting skills are self taught
What is your favourite thing to make?
At the moment my favourite are Large Amigurumi animals, but I also still love to make hats!
What is one thing you would love to learn?
I would love to learn how to sew!!
Tell me us a random fact about you that most people don’t know.
I have a Bsc in Biology and Psychology and I LOVE all animals, but my favourite are frogs!!!
What I love the most about Sara’s photo’s is that she shows the true size! Doesn’t this look just oh so cuddly?
